Trichogramma chilonis Rearing System

Trichogramma chilonis is a minute hymenopterous egg parasitoid utilized as a powerful bio-agent to control the sugarcane borer complex (top borer, stem borer, and root borer).

The female Trichogramma wasp lays its eggs inside the eggs of sugarcane borers, preventing borer larvae from hatching and damaging the cane stalks.

Field Benefits & Preventive Effect

Besides direct pest reduction during the season of release, field releases of Trichogramma cards establish a self-perpetuating population in sugarcane fields, providing preventive protection across successive crop seasons.

  • Zero Chemical Residues: Safe for field workers, water sources, and beneficial soil organisms.
  • Broad Field Coverage: Distributed via convenient Tricho cards attached directly to sugarcane leaves.
  • Cost Efficient: Significantly lower expense compared to multiple sprays of toxic synthetic insecticides.
